Since 1999 Sonim Technologies has been the innovative leader and manufacturer of the world's toughest phones. The "world's toughest phone" will take on Europe, starting with Stockholm.
The new military-spec, Bluetooth, and push-to-talk GSM Sonim XP1 is engineered for outdoor sports enthusiasts and those who work in harsh environments, certified to withstand shock, water, wind, dust, dirt, and extreme temperatures, the U.S.-based mobile Sonim Technologies announced. And not that you'll need it, but there's also a three-year, unconditional warranty (PDF).
We have reinvented ruggedness many times over in the last few years, and have also transformed the telecommunications industry with our tough devices. From our early Push-To-Talk stages to releasing the first IP-68 rated GSM mobile phone in 2010, our constant focus on the real needs of our customers, the professionals who work in the world's toughest environments, Sonim Technologies, which is known for manufacturing world’s most rugged, water-submersible mobile phones has launched the world’s toughest phone, Sonim XP3300 Force. With the launch of this handset, Sonim has secured its entry into the Guinness Book of World Records.
Bob Plaschke, CEO, Sonim Technologies, said, “We wanted to stamp Sonim’s name on the world record, confirming that the Sonim XP3300 Force is the toughest phone in the world. Most phones are drop tested to a metre, which just isn’t enough in extreme environments such as the construction sites, oil rigs or in the forest.”
How did it earn its title? Well, by surviving an 84 feet (25 meters) drop onto a layer of concrete, of course. Not only that it remained in one piece, but was still fully operational, as the Guinness World Records officials confirmed after the test. In comparison, most rugged phones are subjected to drops no higher than three feet when tested for endurance. The device bagged the official "World's Toughest Phone" title with the stunt, in which it was dropped from higher than 12 storeys onto concrete – yet survived to make a call.
